The novel I wrote isn’t good. In fact it’s pretty terrible. The idea is nice, but it’s “falling flat”. I’m not sure what that actually means, but it’s the best way I can describe it. There’s no weight to anything that’s happening. I know how to fix it. It needs to show more of the characters that actually matter to the story, and it needs to show less of the characters that don’t. I have two characters, friends of the main character, that just don’t need to be there at all. They’re taking up space. I like them, but they gotta go.

Then I have another character who doesn’t get much introduction at all and something bad happens to him. This bad thing really affects the protagonist, but when the bad thing happens, it doesn’t matter cause I didn’t give that side character enough time to matter to the reader.

So I know how to fix it. But I don’t have the energy for it. I mean that I don’t want to put the energy into it. At least not right now. I have too many other ideas I want to move on to. So I’ll take notes on what needs to happen with this novel and come back to it later. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
